Season of Light: A Winter Fairytale—Friday through Sunday—Silver Spring Stage
Silver Spring Stage’s production of Season of Light closes this weekend. There are four opportunities to see the play DC Metro Theater Arts called an “engaging family fable for Christmastime”: Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. Adult tickets cost $25.
Celebrate the Season of CommUNITY: Merry Moments—Saturday—Downtown Silver Spring
Downtown Silver Spring is hosting a day of holiday festivities Saturday. The event kicks off with the weekly farmers market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and is followed by a pop-up book store and story time with Santa from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be hot chocolate and s’mores stations from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Fountain Plaza. Performances from Newport Middle School, School of Rock and Salvation Army Band run 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Holiday Gift Shop and Open Farm—Saturday—Sat Gazing Farm
The farm animal sanctuary will be hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event is free and open to the public. Handmade gifts, such as scarves, baskets and ceramics, will be available for sale and will benefit the sanctuary. Visitors will be able to meet the animals and enjoy hot cider and cookies.
Holiday Classics—Saturday through Sunday—AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center
AFI’s Holiday Classics series continues this weekend with The Nightmare Before Christmas. Patrons can catch the animated Tim Burton film at 11:15 a.m. Saturday or 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Adult tickets cost $10; child tickets cost $5.
Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker—Sunday—The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda
Moscow Ballet’s rendition of the holiday classic includes hand-painted sets and life-size nesting dolls. The matinee is sold out. Tickets to the 7 p.m. Sunday performance start at $48.
