Stabbing at Wheaton Shopping Center Under Investigation

Victim expected to survive

A man was stabbed at the Westfield Shopping Center in Wheaton Tuesday afternoon, county police announced.

Police and rescue crews were called to the mall at 4:48 p.m. and found a man, whose age was not provided, with what police described as life-threatening trauma to his body.

The police said the man is expected to survive. He was taken to a hospital, which police did not name, for treatment.

Detectives believe the stabbing wasn’t random, and are looking into whether the attacker knew the man, police said.

The attack is the second since late November and came two weeks before Christmas, during one of the most active shopping seasons.

Representatives from the mall did not respond to voice mail and email messages seeking comment Wednesday morning.
