Montgomery County police have determined that speed and alcohol were factors in a car crash that killed two Potomac residents more than a year ago.
Kent Matthew Brooks, 30, and Kathleen Michelle French, 33, died from injuries after the Audi S4 Brooks was driving left the roadway and struck a tree. French was a passenger in the car.
The crash occurred on Democracy Boulevard at around 11:39 p.m. Oct. 18, 2017.
Police spokesman Officer Rick Goodale said crash investigation specialists could not determine the exact speed of the car, but they confirmed Brooks was speeding. Investigators did not release information regarding Brooks’ blood alcohol content.
Brooks had addresses in the 7800 block of Heatherton Lane in Potomac and the 1400 block of Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda, while French lived in the 7500 block of Heatherton Lane in Potomac, according to police.
County police continue to aggressively enforce impaired driving laws; the 2018 Alcohol Holiday Task Force has arrested 168 people for driving under the influence in the past month, Goodale said.
