Police Boost Patrols After Suspicious Situation in Silver Spring

Man allegedly grabbed child, flashed gun

Montgomery County police have increased patrols in the Lyttonsville area of Silver Spring after an 8-year-old boy told authorities a man with a gun tried to abduct him near dusk on Friday.

Officers from the Special Victims Investigations Division continue to investigate the case they are labeling a suspicious situation and have interviewed the child and people who live and work near Lyttonsville and Grubb roads.

Police responded at 6:23 p.m. to a report that boy stepped off his school bus at about 4 p.m. when a light gray four-door sedan approached and stopped. A man, about 40 years old with a gun in his waistband, told him to get in the car and grabbed his shirt, according to police.

The child broke free and ran home, police said.

No one has observed suspicious activity in the area and the details of the incident remain unconfirmed.
