County Council to interview Elrich’s appointees for department heads on Tuesday

The Montgomery County Council will interview County Executive Marc Elrich’s three appointees to his new administration at their meeting on Tuesday. County department heads are subject to confirmation by the council. The appointees are:

  • Robin Riley – to serve as the director of the Montgomery County Department of recreation
  • State Sen. Rich Madaleno — to serve as the director of the Office of Management and budget; and
  • Andrew Kleine — to serve as Elrich’s Chief Administrative Officer.

The council is not scheduled to vote on the appointments at Tuesday’s meeting, which will be their last before holiday recess. The council will be back in session starting Jan. 15.

Elrich to hold two listening sessions next week

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will hold two more listening sessions this week to hear from constituents about their concerns facing the county. One will be Tuesday at Poolesville High School from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the other will be Dec. 15 at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Political journalists to discuss election and upcoming legislative session

A panel of Maryland political reporters will discuss the 2018 general election results and their potential impact on the major issues that surface in this year’s General Assembly session, which begins Jan. 9.

The panelists will also discuss whether there is a “new normal” in Maryland politics, and what it all means for Montgomery County. The panel includes Ovetta Wiggins of The Washington Post, Bryan Sears of the Daily Record, and Josh Kurtz and Bruce DePuyt of Maryland Matters. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bethesda North Marriot Conference Center.

County Council seeks Board of Appeals applicants by Jan. 4

The Montgomery County Council is seeking applicants to fill a seat on the county’s Board of Appeals. The board is responsible for deciding land-use cases and hearing other types of appeals regarding county government issues. The position must be filled by a Republican, unaffiliated voter or other party recognized by the county Board of Elections. The deadline is Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. Letters must include a resume listing professional and civic experience, political party affiliation, home and office telephone numbers and an email address.
