Krazy Steve’s opening in Silver Spring

Carnivore BBQ pit master Stephen Adelson is opening Krazy Steve’s Comfort Cuisine in Silver Spring in early 2019.

The restaurant will be located at 1909 Seminary Road, the former home of Armand’s Chicago Pizzeria, which closed in July. Adelson said he plans to serve apizza in addition to Carnivore BBQ meats and macaroni and cheese.

“We’re taking what Armand’s had and making it realize its full potential,” Adelson said.

Adelson owns four Carnivore BBQ food trucks and also caters events out of his smokehouse in Derwood. He said the growth and popularity of his operation prompted the decision to open a traditional location.

“The product was so good and there was so much passion that we needed to establish a brick-and-mortar place,” Adelson said.

Adelson added he wants Krazy Steve’s to appeal to families, which is part of the reason he added pizza and desserts to the menu.

Frozen Stuff on a Stick is now open at Westfield Montgomery mall in Bethesda, a popsicle shop offering a range of frosty treats.

Owners Joel Rogozinski and his fiancée Holly Bagwell began with a food truck under the name Pop Culture, opening up their first brick-and-mortar store in Purcellville, Virginia, in August. Rogozinski said the goal is to grow throughout the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia area. The Bethesda shop is the second for the couple and will be followed by a Georgetown location in spring 2019.

The pair were back-to-school shopping at the mall when they decided to pursue a location there.

“It had a lot of niche stores,” Rogozinski said. “We saw an opportunity.”

The Frozen Stuff on a Stick menu includes icy pops such as strawberry banana and grape lime, as well as creamy pops such as birthday cake and chocolate peppermint. All of the pops are made fresh, so the selection changes based on which ingredients are in season. Rogozinski said cherry is currently unavailable, but blood orange has been added to the menu.

“By nature, we have to be seasonal,” Rogozinski said.

The store also serves nitrogen-infused coffee, tea and kombucha sourced from Cascade Beverage Company. Frozen Stuff on a Stick items are available via pick-up or delivery, along with a catering service featuring the pop truck or a pushcart.
