The Montgomery County Board of Education on Tuesday unanimously elected District 4 member Shebra Evans to a one-year term as the board’s president.

Evans spent the past year serving as the school board’s vice president and is a member of the board’s Fiscal Management Committee. A Silver Spring resident, Evans was elected to her first four-year term on the school board in 2016. She replaces former president Mike Durso, who did not run for re-election when his term expired this year.

Longtime District 3 board member Pat O’Neill was elected as vice president in a 6-2 vote. Two votes were cast for At-Large representative Jeanette Dixon.

O’Neill, a Bethesda resident, has been a member of the school board since 1998 and has served as the board’s president five times. She is the chairperson of the Policy Management Committee and a member of the Fiscal Management Committee.
