Cummings elected state Democratic party chair

Baltimore policy consultant Maya Rockeymoore Cummings was elected the chairwoman of the Maryland Democratic Party on Saturday over incumbent chairwoman Kathleen Matthews by a vote of 438 to 319. At the same session, held in Lanham, the party elected its other officers. Somerset Mayor Jeffrey Slavin was elected as the party’s deputy treasurer. [Maryland Matters]

Water main repairs cause bottleneck on Georgia Avenue

Southbound traffic was jammed Monday morning at the intersection of Georgia and Connecticut Avenues in Silver Spring due to a water main break over the weekend. As of Sunday evening, about 300 customers were without water according to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, and Harmony Hills Elementary School is closed on Monday. [WTOP]

Five injured in Rockville Pike crash

Five people were injured in a four-car crash on Rockville Pike on Sunday, which occurred just after noon at the intersection with Edmonston Drive. At least three were seriously injured according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer. [WTOP]
