Metropolitan Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker—Friday through Sunday—Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center at Montgomery College, Rockville
Metropolitan Ballet Theatre & Academy’s 30th Anniversary run of The Nutcracker begins Friday night and continues through Dec. 9. Adult tickets purchased in advance cost $28; tickets for seniors, students and children purchased in advance cost $24.

Gem of the Ocean—Friday through Sunday—Round House Theatre
Round House Theatre’s run of Gem of the Ocean began Wednesday. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson, Gem of the Ocean is the first play in a chronological series that explores the African-American experience in the 20th century. Regularly priced  tickets start at $46. Patrons can purchase “Pay-What-You-Can” tickets to the Saturday matinee at the box office. The last performance will be Dec. 23.

Traditional German Christmas Market—Saturday—German International School, Potomac
German International School’s annual “Weihnachtsmarkt,” or German Christmas market, returns this Saturday. German food, drink and imported hand-crafted goods will be available for sale at the event presented by the Friends of the German International School. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m Saturday. Admission is free.

Bethesda’s Winter Wonderland—Saturday—Veterans Park, Bethesda
Bethesda Urban Partnerships’s Winter Wonderland runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event includes holiday performances, an ice sculpting presentation and a visit from Santa. Winter Wonderland is free and open to the public.

Pleiades Jewelry Show & Sale—Saturday through Sunday—The Mansion at Strathmore
Created by local artisans over 30 years ago, the Pleiades Jewelry Show & Sale will feature hand-crafted jewelry by 30 female artists this year. The event will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and will include silver and gold pieces with gemstones, enamel and beads. Table sculptures and silver flatware will also be available for sale. Admission is free.

Holiday Book Fair and Open Mic—Sunday—The Writer’s Center, Bethesda
The Writer’s Center is hosting a holiday book fair and open mic event Sunday. The fair is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. An open mic session will follow in the Reading Room.
