Robin Riley, the division chief of administration, facilities and capital programs for the Montgomery County Department of Recreation, is expected to become the department’s next director.

County Executive-elect Marc Elrich announced Riley’s appointment Tuesday night at a listening session held at the East County Community Recreation Center in Silver Spring, in which he answered questions from residents about their concerns. Tuesday’s listening session was the second of five he is holding to hear from county residents about the issues that matter most to them as he enters the county executive role.

Riley’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the County Council.

Riley was not available for comment Wednesday morning, but recreation department spokeswoman Carmen Berrios said the council is expected to vote on her appointment before its winter recess begins Dec. 17.

“County Executive-elect Marc Elrich has submitted her name for approval, and it will require five votes for approval,” Berrios said.

According to the recreation department’s website, Riley has been with the department for 30 years and has won numerous awards, including the County Employee of the Year award. She has a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Maryland.

Riley will replace Gabe Albornoz, who has served as the department’s director since January 2007. Albornoz will be sworn in next week as one of four new council members.
