Emergency crews responded to a call on Saturday when high floodwaters stranded a dozen people in Chevy Chase.
Pete Piringer, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, reported the water rescue at 4:12 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Park Community Center at 7900 Meadowbrook Lane. The MCFRS Swift Water Rescue Team and Maryland-National Capital Park Police assisted around 20 people stranded or isolated in the building. Piringer said roughly two dozen people were attending a 1-year-old’s birthday party when the building was surrounded by several feet of water that had spilled over the banks of the adjacent Rock Creek.

MCFRS also responded to a trio of vehicle issues related to flooding, one requiring a rescue from the top of a car, according to Piringer. On the 1700 block of Brighton Dam Road in Brookeville, a driver escaped to the roof of the vehicle, from which he was rescued and transported to a local hospital. No life-threatening injuries were reported. Two other drivers self-extracted from flooded areas with no injuries, one on Bordly Drive in Brookeville and another on Volunteer Drive and Olney Laytonsville Road in Olney.
