Montgomery County detectives and the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have concluded their investigations into the Sykesville man whose body was found in a Bethesda park in August 2017, finding no evidence of foul play and the cause of death undetermined.

Daniel Taylor Evans, 40, of Sykesville, was found dead on Aug. 10, 2017. The initial police report stated a Mitsubishi Gallant that Evans was using was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Bethesda, though it didn’t indicate whether he was the driver or victim. Law enforcement has now confirmed Evans was the driver in the collision at 7500 Royal Domain Drive at roughly 3:15 p.m. and that he fled the scene following the incident.

Police said they unsuccessfully searched for the suspect in the hit-and-run collision following the incident. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office then became involved to handle a missing person’s report filed regarding Evans on Aug. 4.

Evans was found a week later by a Bethesda family in the water in Booze Creek Stream Valley Park, off of River Road, inside the Beltway.

Police officers did not find any obvious signs of injury or any evidence of foul play when they investigated Evans’ death. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the manner and cause of his death as undetermined.

Evans worked for Accent General Contracting, a Rockville contractor. He is survived by his parents and three siblings.
