A new Nestle Toll House Café by Chip location opened in Gaithersburg on Nov. 23 , providing products from the company such as coffee and cookies along with heartier items like flatbreads and paninis.
The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for owners Vaishali, Ajay and Deepak Kapoor at the café, with Nestle brand-colored balloons fittingly creating an arch over the entrance at 11 Arch Place. This is the second establishment for the chain in Montgomery County, joining the Wheaton mall location at 11160 Veirs Mill Road in Silver Spring.
The Kapoor family members said they are “glad to be a part of the community” in a GGCC press release on Friday.
The café menu is headlined by cookie cakes, an original Nestle creation. Most of the options are baked goods or desserts, though there are also lunch selections. The Gaithersburg location is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Ceremony Coffee Roasters coming to Bethesda
Ceremony Coffee Roasters will be arriving at the Bethesda Crescent building in early 2019, bringing hot morning beverages as well as educational workshops.
The 7475 Wisconsin Ave. iteration will be the company’s first location in Montgomery County, joining three shops in Baltimore, two in Annapolis and one in the District.
Ceremony shops offers a range of coffees and espressos in addition to seasonal drinks such as the Cinnamon Toast Pumpkin Latte and Coffee Sangria. The organization was established in 2002 by founder and CEO Vince Iatesta, beginning with The Roastery at 90 Russell St. and branching out to six more locations, plus the Bethesda chain and another Baltimore café coming next year.
In addition to offering the java smorgasbord, Ceremony takes customers behind the scenes of the coffee creation process through classes, weekly coffee breaks and brewing guides, all designed to enhance the drinking experience, according to Ceremony’s website. Ceremony classes are provided free to wholesalers and available to the public for typically $150, educating participants on brewing methods and other techniques. The weekly breaks allow customers to sample new items at Ceremony, while the guides help patrons make their own coffee at home .
MOD Pizza heading to Rockville
The Montrose Crossing shopping center will get a new addition in July 2019 with the arrival of MOD Pizza, providing artisan-style pies made in front of customers with the option of adding any of over 30 toppings.
The Rockville location is the second in Montgomery County, joining one in Silver Spring at 909 Ellsworth Drive. MOD Pizza Public Relations Director Charlotte Wayte said in an email that the decision to come to the area was made as part of an initiative to expand in the Washington, D.C., area.
“Communities like Rockville are ideal for MOD: a healthy business/retail core and a strong sense of community,” Wayte said.
The company was founded in 2008 in Seattle by husband and wife Scott and Ally Svenson. MOD Pizza now has almost 400 locations across the country in 28 states. Wayte said the organization will be hiring 25 to 30 employees at the Rockville chain. She added that as part of MOD Pizza tradition, the entirety of pizza sales on opening day will be donated to either a local charity or childhood hunger group Generosity Feeds.
