Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center Director Ken Hartman said Tuesday that Montgomery County Executive-elect Marc Elrich has told him he will keep his post.
The regional services directors act as liaisons between the county executive and the County Council and the business community. They are responsible for helping engage communities in the political process, providing technical assistance to local organizations and helping form public-private partnerships, according to the county website.
When asked Tuesday about Hartman, Elrich declined to comment.
Hartman said he attended a meeting Tuesday morning with Elrich at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club, which left him feeling positive about the incoming administration. Elrich will be sworn in Dec. 3.
“He [Elrich] talked about making it easier to do business in the county,” Hartman said.
The Silver Spring blog Source of the Spring on Monday quoted Elrich as saying he felt “pretty good” about the regional services staff and that “they would be staying.” He also said he hoped to have several proposed administration appointments to present to the council when it meets Dec. 4. Elrich will be sworn in Dec. 3.
The other regional service center directors are:
—Reemberto Rodriguez, of the Silver Spring Regional Center
—Catherine Matthews, of the Sidney Kramer Upcounty Regional Services Center in Germantown;
—Luisa Montero-Diaz, of the Mid-County Regional Services Center in Wheaton; and
—Jewru Bandeh, of the Eastern Montgomery County Regional Center in Silver Spring.
So far, Elrich has appointed former Baltimore budget director Andrew Kleine as chief administrative officer, subject to council confirmation. Department of Health and Human Services director Uma Ahluwalia said last week she would be resigning Dec. 1. According to county personnel rules, all employees must submit their resignation two weeks before their planned departure date.
