In the throes of finalizing next year’s capital budget, Montgomery County Public Schools staff on Monday launched an online survey and competition to determine what projects students want to see completed in their schools.

The exercise, titled Schools of the Future, aims to engage students and gather input about what type of school environments in which they feel most comfortable, inspired and stimulated.

Before the competition is launched, MCPS is first distributing a survey to get a sense of any common themes students and staff may want to see in their schools.

MCPS will collect survey results through the beginning of January, and the information collected will be used to “support continuous improvement of our educational facilities,” according to the MCPS website.

More information about the contest will be provided in the future.

“This is the first step in allowing students and staff to tell us what makes sense to them,” Seth Adams, director of construction for MCPS, said Monday during Superintendent Jack Smith’s monthly press conference.
