Updated: Police Identify North Potomac Woman Killed in Pedestrian Collision in Downtown Gaithersburg

Tuesday morning incident halted nearby train traffic

A North Potomac woman was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Summit Avenue in downtown Gaithersburg, according to Montgomery County police.

At approximately 6:44 a.m., Li Zhang, 52, was crossing South Summit Avenue at Wells Avenue, when she was struck by a 2011 Nissan Rogue, traveling south.

Zhang, of Settlers Landing Way, died at the scene, according to police.

The driver of the Rogue, 29-year-old Abidemi Etabuno D Udah, of Gaithersburg, left the scene but returned a short time later. She was not injured in the collision.

The crash occurred near the MARC station, halting train traffic through the area for several hours Tuesday morning.

This marks 13 pedestrian fatalities in 2018 for the county. The incident is the second this week after a slew of collisions last week.
