Study finds Latino students continue to struggle academically in Montgomery County

A new report from the University of Maryland School of Public Health finds that the achievement gap for Latino students in Montgomery County has widened during the last four years, with the dropout rate rising to 13.8 percent and the graduation rate falling to 78.5 percent, among other trends. Police use Instagram to find robbery suspect

Jerome Jeffries, a Hit Squad gang member who robbed two people in Wheaton in February, was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday. According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Jeffries was easily determined as the culprit after he posted his location on Instagram. [Fox 5]

State lawmakers question University of Maryland Board of Regents over death of football player

In a tense hearing Thursday afternoon, Maryland lawmakers sharply questioned officials from the University of Maryland about their actions following the death of 19-year-old football player Jordan McNair. Delegate Kirill Reznik, of Germantown, accused the board of initially allowing coach DJ Durkin to keep his job because he had a “bright future.” [WTOP]
