Rose Krasnow Endorses Floreen

Former Rockville mayor returns the favor from the primary

Rose Krasnow, who unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for county executive earlier this year, Friday morning endorsed independent candidate Nancy Floreen for the county’s top elected position.

In a press release from Floreen’s campaign, Krasnow stated that Floreen is a “proven leader with executive, legislative and policy experience.” Krasnow noted that as mayor of Rockville and more recently as deputy director of the county planning department,  she had worked closely with Floreen, who has been a county council member for 16 years.

“I have always been impressed with her intelligence, her pragmatic approach to the issues, and her amazing ability to work with others to get things done. She understands that our county has changed and grown significantly and in order to provide the best services to our residents we must grow the tax base through new jobs and economic opportunity. Nancy is the leader who can take us successfully into the future,” Krasnow wrote.

Krasnow has essentially returned the favor from the six-way Democratic primary in June, when Floreen, who did not run in the primary, endorsed the former mayor. Krasnow lost to County Council member Marc Elrich.

Following the primary, Floreen, formerly a Democrat, changed her party affiliation to independent in order to challenge Elrich in the general election. Republican attorney Robin Ficker is also running in the race.

Elrich has been endorsed by the four other Democrats who ran in the June primary, County Council members Roger Berliner and George Leventhal, along with District 16 Del. Bill Frick and businessman David Blair, according to Elrich’s campaign website.
