UNIQLO, a Japan-based clothing retailer, is opening its first Maryland location at Pike & Rose on Sept. 1.

The 8,000-square-foot store at 11853 Grand Park Ave. will sell the company’s line of apparel, called LifeWear.

“We look forward to opening our doors in Maryland for the first time, and introducing customers to UNIQLO’s exceptional service and innovative apparel designed to help your everyday life,” Hiroshi Taki, CEO of UNIQLO USA, said in a news release.

UNIQLO operates more than 2,000 stores worldwide and 47 in the United States, including locations in Union Station and Tyson’s Corner.

The North Bethesda store has planned some special events over its inaugural weekend, with Japanese Taiko drummers performing ahead of the 10 a.m. opening. Shoppers will also receive complimentary sample of Kung Fu Tea.

UNIQLO will join other retailers at the North Bethesda development of shops, restaurants and residential buildings, including a 24,000-square-foot H&M that opened there last September.
