The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center is caring for 71 cats and a rabbit that were removed from a North Potomac home last week, according to county officials.
Officers with the county police department’s Animal Services Division began removing the animals July 14 from the home in the 2000 block of Sweetbough Court after responding to an animal welfare complaint. The homeowner agreed to surrender the animals and 53 cats and the rabbit were removed, according to a police press release.
The officers continued to remove animals during the week, the release said. A total of 71 cats along with the rabbit had been removed as of Friday. The animals were taken to the Animal Services and Adoption Center at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road, which is run by the Animal Services Division.
The Animal Services Division is continuing its investigation, the release said. No further details were available. Division Director Thomas Koenig could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
