Montgomery County police this week made two arrests in the June 8 robbery and assault of a 40-year-old man who later died in a hit-and-run collision.

Investigators say that Mohammed Salous, 17; Kenneth Sahr Kpakima, 21; and a 15-year-old girl assaulted and robbed Gregory Atwood near Georgia Avenue and Hewitt Avenue in the Aspen Hill area. The group ran away after the robbery, leaving Atwood injured, according to authorities who reviewed surveillance video of the incident.

Later on, in the same area, Atwood was struck by two different cars—one of them might be a 2011 Chrysler 200 or 2011 Dodge Avenger, and the other might be a light-colored Dodge Durango. Both drivers left the scene, police reported.

Officers arrived at about 3:50 a.m. after hearing about a person in the roadway and found Atwood’s body in the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue.

Salous was arrested Tuesday and charged as an adult with assault, while Kpakima was taken into custody Thursday and charged with assault and armed robbery, according to police. The teenaged girl has been identified but not charged.

Detectives continue to investigate the hit-and-run collisions and are asking anyone who might have seen them or who have information in the case to call 240-773-6620. Callers can remain anonymous.
