Motorists should look out for triple lane closures on the Capital Beltway this weekend on the outer loop near Kensington Parkway.

The lanes will be closed between Georgia Avenue and Connecticut Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting. The Maryland State Highway Administration will keep one lane open at all times until the work on resurfacing the bridge over Kensington Parkway is completed but advises drivers to expect “major delays.” A daily average of 233,000 vehicles traverse this part of the Beltway, although traffic volumes are lighter at night and on weekends. SHA suggested using University Boulevard, Veirs Mill Road or Georgia Avenue as alternatives to the Beltway.

The bridge work is part of an $8 million project for road resurfacing and safety improvements on the Beltway through Montgomery County.

The triple lane closures were initially scheduled to happen a couple weeks ago but were postponed.
