The Daily Dish in Silver Spring, Owen’s Ordinary North Bethesda and the local Moby Dick House of Kabob chain were named winners Sunday in the 36th annual RAMMY Awards competition sponsored by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington.
The regional trade association’s awards contest, which “honors the exceptional ability and accomplishments of the hard-working individuals and organizations of the region’s restaurants and foodservice community,” announced winners in 21 categories, according to a press statement.
Owen’s Ordinary, a brew pub in the Pike & Rose development, won the award for “best beer program of the year” and The Daily Dish was honored as “favorite gathering place of the year.” The Daily Dish, at 8301 Grubb Road, previously won a RAMMY for “casual brunch of the year” and was a 2017 finalist for “casual restaurant of the year.”
Moby Dick House of Kabob won “favorite fast bites of the year.” The chain has locations in Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Potomac, Rockville and Olney, as well as other communities in Maryland and Virginia.
Also, the association awarded its Exceptional Leadership & Impact Award to Bethesda residents Jose Andres and his wife, Patricia Fernandez de la Cruz, for “their remarkable contributions to the Washington, D.C., region, and for their incredible efforts they have taken as citizens of the world.” Andres and his nonprofit World Central Kitchen are credited with providing thousands of meals to the residents of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastated the island last fall.
Award winners were chosen by the voting public and an anonymous panel of volunteer judges, which included food and dining journalists, educators and foodservice industry professionals, according to the statement. The voting public decided the winners in four categories: favorite gathering place of the year, upscale brunch, everyday casual brunch and favorite fast bites.
