New inspection reports find water-logged Red Line tunnels on Metro
Newly released Federal Transit Administration Metro inspection reports found standing water, clogged drains and debris around cables, with the most significant problems on the Red Line. Between Bethesda and Friendship Heights, inspectors found an electrical junction box that had fallen off a wall and rusted plating falling onto an emergency catwalk. [WTOP]
Ervin questioning decision not to reprint ballots
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Valerie Ervin is questioning the state Board of Elections’ decision not to reprint the ballots that feature the name of her former running mate, Kevin Kamenetz, who died suddenly earlier this month. Ervin has decided to run for governor in his place, but it’s not clear if the ballot will feature her name and that of her lieutenant governor running mate, Marisol Johnson. The board says many of the ballots are already printed and some have been distributed. [Washington Post]
Madaleno fighting to secure votes in Montgomery County
State Sen. Rich Madaleno’s (D-Kensington) campaign strategy in his bid for governor includes trying to put a “wall” around Montgomery County, which he has represented in the General Assembly for 15 years. However, he has struggled to raise money and reported the least amount of money in his campaign war chest in January among the seven major campaigns. [Baltimore Sun]
Dale Drive residents walk to demand a safer road in Silver Spring
About 100 residents took to the street Sunday to walk a 1-mile stretch of Dale Drive in Silver Spring that they’ve described as unsafe due to a lack of sidewalks and speeding vehicles. The county is planning improvements to make the road safer for residents in response to their complaints. [WTOP]
Mostly sunny Monday, but a chance of nighttime showers
Monday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 80 degrees and a nighttime low around 64, plus a chance of nighttime showers that are likely to extend into Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
