A new seating and dining area opening this month is meant to bring the experience of the beach to Pike & Rose.
Named simply “The Beach,” the sand-covered community space will open Memorial Day weekend next to Rose Park and the Porsche Bethesda dealership, according to Federal Realty, which manages the North Bethesda development. It will be open to the public daily with seating and dining areas, and a bar will operate there during the weekend.
Trucks are currently unloading 252 tons of sand that will fill the space, which spans a block on Rose Avenue.
The Beach Bar, open Fridays and Saturdays, will serve snacks, beer, wine and beach-themed cocktails like Orange Crush. The bar will be operated by Ridgewells, a Bethesda catering company, according to a Pike & Rose press release.
The free beach area will include an array of Adirondack chairs and tables, where people can sit or eat lunch, provided by L.L. Bean, which operates a store on Rose Avenue. Sand pails and shovels for kids as well as other beach games will be available for use.
Pike & Rose plans to hold free fitness classes and other events at the Beach over the summer.
