A 45-year-old Greenbelt woman died at the scene from injuries she sustained when she was struck by a vehicle on Columbia Pike in northeastern Montgomery County early Sunday morning.

Montgomery County police said My Huong T. Nguyen was struck by a BMW 325i driven by Ivan William Kadian, 29, of Hyattsville around 3 a.m. on Columbia Pike (Route 29) at Fairland Road.

Kadian was arrested at the scene for suspicion of driving under the influence. Kadian was not injured, but a man riding in the passenger seat of his vehicle was transported with life-threatening injuries to a local hospital, according to police.

At the time of the crash, Nguyen and a man who was not identified by police were standing in a southbound lane of Columbia Pike outside a 2006 Honda Pilot that Nguyen had been driving. They exited the vehicle after Ngyuen was first involved in a minor collision with a different vehicle, a 2014 Honda Pilot.

The BMW driven by Kadian struck the Pilot that Nguyen was driving as well as Nguyen and her male passenger. The man and a female passenger sitting in the rear seat of Nguyen’s Pilot were transported to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The female driver of the 2014 Pilot involved in the initial collision with Nguyen’s vehicle and the woman sitting in the front passenger seat of the SUV were also transported to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and ask anyone with information to call 240-773-6620.
