One incumbent and two new members won seats on the Town of Chevy Chase’s Town Council in Tuesday’s election.
Incumbent Barney Rush and newcomers Wicca Davidson and Kirk Renaud beat out two other town residents—former Town Council member Fred Cecere and Deborah Vollmer—to join the council.
Rush garnered the most votes with 566, Renaud was second with 552 and Davidson finished with 493. Cecere received 349 votes and Vollmer garnered 66, according to results distributed by the town.
Rush and Renaud both wrote in their lettersto voters they would work to address impacts of the light-rail Purple Line on the town. The line, which will run from Bethesda to New Carrollton, is under construction on the town’s edge and is expected to be completed in 2022. Davidson committed in her letter to create a more engaged community if elected.
The election marks the end of the terms of Mayor Mary Flynn, who said last month she is stepping down from the council so she can return to a full-time job, and former Montgomery County Council member Scott Fosler, who did not seek re-election.
