Every weekday, about 103,000 students in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) ride the school bus from home to school and back. Bus service is available to all elementary school students living more than 1 mile walking distance from their school, middle schoolers living more than 1½ miles away, and high school students who live more than 2 miles away. It’s also available to all students who face hazardous walking conditions, and to students in special education, magnet, gifted/talented and some vocational/educational programs not offered at the student’s home school.
