Five years after opening to much fanfare, Range, an expansive restaurant owned by celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio on the D.C. side of Chevy Chase, closed Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, the conditions impacting our business, including a significant decrease in foot traffic alongside increased costs, have left us unable to operate a profitable restaurant,” Range management said in a statement. “We want to thank our talented staff as well as our customers for their support.”
The news of the closing was first reported by Washingtonian.
Lunchbox, Voltaggio’s sandwhich shop in the same pavilion, remains open. In addition to Lunchbox, Voltaggio, who gained prominence after coming in second to his brother, Michael, on season six of Top Chef, is the executive chef and owner of Volt in Frederick and other restaurants in the area.
The opening of Range, which boasted seven kitchens and an extensive menu, in the Chevy Chase Pavilion, was greeted with much anticipation by area diners, who thronged to the restaurant after its opening in December 2018.
