County Police: Man Raped Gaithersburg Woman as She Entered Her Home

Department released composite sketch of rapist on Friday

A man raped a Gaithersburg woman as she entered her apartment earlier this month, Montgomery County police said.

A 27-year-old woman was attacked by an “unknown male” as she entered her apartment in the 100 block of Park Avenue at about 1 a.m. March 16, according to police.

He was outside the apartment and attacked her from behind, Officer Rick Goodale, a department spokesman, said. The man pushed her inside and raped her inside her home.

Police have not identified the alleged attacker.

Police issued a press release about the rape on Friday. The department also released a composite sketch, describing the man as about 5 feet 9 inches tall. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black hoodie with white fleece lining and dark jeans.

Goodale said police issued a release the week after the incident because detectives wanted to complete all interviews with the victim and complete the composite sketch.

Anyone who recognizes the man or who has information about the rape can call 240-773-5050 or leave an anonymous tip at 866-411-TIPS. Crime Solvers of Montgomery County will pay a reward up to $10,000 if information leads to an arrest or indictment.
