Democratic leaders and a political candidate from Montgomery County have plans in the works for those interested in attending Saturday’s 'March for Our Lives’ rally for gun control on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, is hosting a pre-march rally at the Silver Spring Civic Building at 9 a.m. Saturday. The event will feature high school a-cappella groups and “soul-lifting” music, according to a promotional post on Facebook.
After the event, Raskin and attendees who registered in advance will take buses to the march, scheduled to start at noon.
Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh is planning to cycle to the mall and is inviting others to ride with him. Frosh is meeting with other riders at Little Falls Park at 6300 Little Falls Parkway in Bethesda on Saturday and will leave around 10:30 a.m. for the 10-mile ride.
Meanwhile, 6th District congressional candidate David Trone announced Wednesday he has organized bus transportation for people who want to attend the rally. The buses will pick up people at the Shady Grove Metro Stop at 9 a.m. and drop them off at the National Bureau of Engraving and Printing near the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The bus ride will include breakfast as well as a return trip. Trone is asking people planning to join him for the event to register online. His campaign said Rep. John Delaney, the current 6th District representative who is running for president, and Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker, who is running for Maryland governor, are helping to promote the bus trip.
