Supernus Pharmaceuticals is expanding in Montgomery County.
The Rockville-based company plans to move to a new 118,000-square-foot space on Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg in 2019, according to an announcement Wednesday.
As part of the expansion the company aims to add up to 160 new jobs over the next five years. Supernus currently employs 156 workers. The company has been located in the county for more than two decades. It manufactures drugs to treat central nervous system diseases, migraines and epilepsy.
“Supernus is excited to continue its long tenure in Montgomery County and to expand its headquarters in support of our company’s growth,” Frank Mottola, vice president of quality for the business, said in the announcement.
Maryland provided $800,000 in funds to aid the expansion through its economic development fund, while Montgomery County is providing a $500,000 conditional grant to the company. The City of Gaithersburg also plans to provide a grant up to $400,000 through its Economic Development Opportunity Fund, according to the announcement.
The news of Supernus’ expansion comes on the heels of the announcement by Gaithersburg-based MedImmune earlier this month that it plans to add 100 new jobs at a spin-off business it is creating in the county.
“We are pleased that the success of Supernus’ products has led to this expansion and the potential to double its workforce in Montgomery County,” Gov. Larry Hogan said in a statement.
