A dead body was found inside a burning car in Germantown early Wednesday morning, Montgomery County police said.
A 911 caller reported a brush fire in a wooded area in the 13700 block of Wisteria Drive at 4:22 a.m., according to police.
Firefighters arrived to find a car on fire. After putting out the fire, they found a dead body inside, Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman, said Wednesday. They called police to the scene, and detectives are conducting a death investigation.
The car was parked on a small access road between Wisteria Drive and nearby train tracks, Innocenti said. She said she could not confirm the make and model of the car. The road is located off a residential street and close to Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.
The body has been sent to state medical examiner’s office in Baltimore, who will perform an autopsy to identify the person and determine the cause of death.
Police have asked anyone with information about the death to call detectives at 240-773-5070.
