Updated at 10:15 a.m. Monday: Montgomery County detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred Friday evening in a parking lot of Westfield Montgomery mall in Bethesda.
In a release issued Saturday, police said investigators learned that two groups of two males began an argument off the mall property on Democracy Boulevard in the early evening. The groups then moved into a mall parking lot where shots were fired by one or more of the people before they fled the area.
Police were called to the area of the Bethesda mall at 7:08 p.m. after people reported hearing the sound of multiple shots fired, Officer Rick Goodale, a police spokesman, said Friday night.
During an investigation, police recovered shell casings and discovered parked vehicles that had been struck by bullets. Police did not find anyone who had been injured during the shooting.
