Germantown brothers adapt to life in Nicaragua after deportation

Lizandro and Diego Claros Saravia were deported last summer after years of living in Germantown. They initially were sent back to El Salvador, where some extended family members live, but they’re now in Nicaragua, which is considered safer and where Lizandro plays soccer at a college. He had been a star center back for the Bethesda Soccer Club and had a college scholarship to play soccer before he and Diego were suddenly deported. Poolesville High School team wins national cybersecurity competition

A team of four girls from Poolesville High School beat out thousands of other students in the Girls Go CyberStart Challenge, a five-day national cybersecurity competition. Their interest in cybersecurity and coding largely began in their freshman year when they started taking programming classes. They said they hope their win encourages more girls to enter the field. Lawmakers propose resolutions to address gender gap in Maryland businesses

Legislators in the Maryland House and Senate have proposed joint resolutions that would urge private-sector companies to increase their diversity. A 2016 study found that women, despite making up 49 percent of the workforce, held only 14.6 percent of board seats at 77 publicly traded companies headquartered in the state. [Capital News Service]

Police seek alleged MS-13 member wanted for robberies

Police in Maryland and Virginia are looking for 24-year-old Jose Molina Arevalo, who is wanted in connection with a string of robberies in the area. Authorities say he is a member of the MS-13 gang. The group involved in the robberies allegedly stole tens of thousands of dollars from local businesses. [WJLA]

The temperature should hit a high near 43 today, according to the National Weather Service. There could be winds of 10 mph to 14 mph, with some gusts up to 22 mph, through most of the day and night. Tonight the low drops to 28 and scattered flurries are possible.
