Two men died after a car crashed into a utility pole in Silver Spring early Sunday morning, Montgomery County police said.

A black 2015 Lexus RX 350 SUV struck a pole at the intersection of University Boulevard West and Royalton Road, about a half-mile from Montgomery Blair High School in the Four Corners neighborhood, just before 2:30 a.m., according to police.

The driver, Leonel Osvaldo Gonzales, a 24-year-old from Weller Road in Silver Spring, and the passenger, Hodimyr Gonzalez, a 28-year-old from Treetop Lane in Silver Spring, both died at the scene, police said.

Police believe the SUV was going east on University Boulevard toward Royalton Road when it left the roadway and struck a pole. The SUV’s speed could have contributed to the crash, police said.

Police have asked anyone with information about the crash to call 240-773-6620.
