The movie theater in Kentlands closed last week, according to the owners.

Paragon Theaters Kentlands at 629 Center Point Way closed Jan. 9, company spokeswoman Niki Wilson said.

A new theater is expected to open in the space next year. The Town Courier in Gaithersburg reported in August that Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas would take over the Kentlands theater in 2019. The upscale chain, part of an international company, features fully reclining leather seats, in-theater waiting service, gourmet food and a selection of alcoholic drinks.

Once it’s open, it will have 540 seats in 34,000 square feet, according to the Town Courier.

At the time, Kimco Realty, which owns Kentlands Market Square, suggested that the theater would be closed nine to 12 months for renovations, which would add new sound and high-definition projection technology.

A representative of Kimco could not be reached for comment this week.

Paragon Entertainment Holdings became the owner of the theater in 2015, according to Montgomery Community Media.
