School district officials have picked the principal of the new elementary school slated to open in Rockville in September.
Rachel C. DuBois, who’s currently the principal of Piney Branch Elementary school in Takoma Park, will take the helm at the school, known as Richard Montgomery Elementary School #5 until officials choose a name.
The Montgomery County school board on Tuesday unanimously voted to confirm DuBois’ appointment.
Superintendent Jack Smith told board members that DuBois has worked in Montgomery County Public Schools for 18 years. She’s spent time as a classroom teacher, gifted and talented educator, staff development teacher, assistant principal and principal, he said.
“She looks forward to building strong relationships with students, parents and guardians, staff and community members and working collaboratively with them to support all student success,” Smith said.
The elementary school at 332 W. Edmonston Drive will open with room for 740 students and will accommodate a Chinese immersion program that has operated out of College Gardens Elementary School.
Officials haven’t yet chosen DuBois’ replacement at Piney Branch Elementary, an MCPS spokesman said.
