A man found dead in a Germantown home on Wednesday was 30-year-old Maurice Cortez Mercer, Montgomery County police said.

Police previously said the man had a gunshot wound. The office of the chief medical examiner has ruled that his death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound.

Police said in press release on Thursday that Mercer lived in the 12500 block of Cross Ridge Way.

Officers responding to a report of a suspicious situation found Mercer dead at a home in that block on Wednesday at about 3:51 p.m., authorities said.

Police have not released additional details about Mercer’s death.

Montgomery County police also are looking into an unrelated death from Wednesday, after a woman’s body was found in a pond near the 14200 block of Ballinger Terrace in Burtonsville.

The woman’s body also was sent to the medical examiner’s office.
