Montgomery County Public Schools students will start classes two hours late on Friday as the icy-cold weather continues.

The school system announced in an alert shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday that buses would run on a two-hour delay.

The alert stated that early activities—including prekindergarten, half-day Head Start and field trips scheduled to take place in the morning—would be canceled, as would other programs slated to begin before 10:30 a.m.

MCPS administrative offices and day care programs in school buildings will stay open as scheduled, according to a press release.

Officials will decide by 7 a.m. on Friday whether schools should be closed completely, the release stated.

The forecast for Friday calls for blustery weather in the teens, with the wind chill bringing the perceived temperature down to -9 degrees in the Bethesda area.

School was canceled in Montgomery County on Thursday because of the cold weather.
