Hogan promises to introduce tax relief measure 

Gov. Larry Hogan has vowed to introduce legislation that would protect Maryland residents from paying higher taxes under the tax plan approved by Congress. Hogan said the Wednesday announcement was his “holiday gift” to state residents. His plan would try to mitigate the effect of Congress’s move to decrease the amount of local and state taxes that can be deducted from federal income taxes. [Washington Post]

Women’s rights advocate dies at age 74 in Rockville

A Montgomery County native who helped expose a gender bias in the SAT exam died Nov. 30 at age 74. Leslie Wolfe was an advocate for women and girls and served as president of the Center for Women Policy Studies from 1987 to 2015. She worked to bring attention to workplace diversity, violence toward women and reproductive rights. She died in Rockville. [Washington Post] 

State holds hearing on building pipeline under Potomac River 

A proposal to build a natural gas pipeline that would pass underneath part of the Potomac River drew objection this week from Maryland residents. People expressed their concerns Tuesday evening during a public hearing held by the Maryland Department of the Environment. One woman said she was worried the pipeline would contaminate drinking water for residents in Washington, D.C. [WUSA9]

Bethesda company gathers $2.7 million

A Bethesda transfusion therapy company has raised $2.7 million in equity funding. The company, Hemanext, developed a system to remove oxygen from red blood cells to help with blood transfusion. Company representatives did not immediately say how they planned to use the funding. [Washington Business Journal]
