Funeral services for the fire marshal and the FBI agent killed in a crash on I-270 over the weekend will each be held Thursday.
The service for Sander B. Cohen, a state deputy chief fire marshal who lived in Germantown, will be at 11 a.m. at B’nai Israel at 6301 Montrose Road in Rockville. A private interment will follow.
A funeral service Carlos Wolff, an FBI special agent who lived in Gaithersburg, will be at Church of the Redeemer at 19425 Woodfield Road in Gaithersburg at 11 a.m. He will then be interred in All Souls Cemetery on Brink Road in Germantown.
The two men died Friday night after a crash south of the highway’s Falls Road exit in Rockville. Wolff’s 2002 Acura MDX SUV struck a Jersey barrier in the southbound lanes at about 10 p.m. and bounced into the fast lane.
Cohen, a lieutenant with the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department, was driving by and noticed the crash scene. He alerted authorities for assistance and stopped his vehicle before Wolff’s and turned on the emergency flashers.
Wolff and Cohen were standing in the shoulder when an approaching vehicle swerved left to avoid hitting the vehicles. The vehicle struck Wolff and Cohen, knocking both over the Jersey barrier into northbound traffic, where Cohen was struck by another vehicle.
Cohen was pronounced dead at the scene and Wolff was pronounced dead at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.
Alcohol was not considered a factor and no one was taken into custody following the crash.
Maryland state police announced details of Cohen’s funeral arrangements in a press release, inviting police, firefighters and media to attend.
The details of Wolff’s funeral were posted online by Snowden Funeral Home in. The FBI national press office did not announce information about his funeral and whether the public may attend.
