Hogan to appear at rally in Virginia gubernatorial race
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is wading into Virginia’s gubernatorial contest. Hogan is set to headline a Northern Virginia rally for Republican candidate Ed Gillespie on Saturday. A recent Washington Post-Schar School poll shows Gillespie five percentage points behind the Democratic candidate, Ralph Northam. Gas smell forces Rockville residents out of homes temporarily
Several homes in Rockville were evacuated Wednesday night because of a gas odor. A hazmat team went to the neighborhood on the 800 block of 1st Street after dispatchers received several calls about the smell. Residents were sent to a nearby shopping center while rescue workers investigated. Authorities said someone probably poured gasoline into the sewer, causing the smell. [NBC4]
Expansion planned for Politics & Prose flagship
Politics & Prose has plans to expand its flagship bookstore in northwest D.C. The business is looking to add about 3,500 square feet to its Chevy Chase location by taking over a fourth storefront on Connecticut Avenue. Politics & Prose will use the extra space for retail, another checkout desk, employee offices, a break room and storage. The expansion is expected to be finished by early 2018. [Curbed DC]
250 storage units burglarized in Frederick
Police are investigating break-ins at 250 storage units in Frederick. The burglaries at Public Storage took place on Oct. 27 and 28, according to authorities. The burglars seemed to be searching for smaller items such as jewelry and medication. Investigators believe that more than one person carried out the break-ins. [Fox5]
Showers possible Friday evening
Friday’s forecast includes a chance of showers in the late afternoon or early evening. The day is expected to be partly sunny, with highs in the high 70s. Overnight, temperatures are expected to fall to around 47 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
