A man posed as another man and used a fake driver’s license to empty the victim’s account at a Silver Spring bank this summer, police said.
The thief walked into SunTrust Bank on 8700 Georgia Ave. and used the fake license in the victim’s name to withdraw about $2,500 from the other man’s account on June 30, Montgomery County police announced in a press release Thursday.
The victim found out the next day when the bank notified him that it closed his account because all of his money had been withdrawn, according to police.
Surveillance photos police released Thursday of the man show him wearing a gray shirt, jeans and sunglasses at the bank.
Police have asked anyone with information to call financial crime investigators at 240-773-6330 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 866-411-8477 for a reward of up to $10,000 if the information leads to an arrest or indictment.
