Gaithersburg Woman Died After Car Struck Her While She Crossed Street

76-year-old pedestrian was hit by Lexus

A 76-year-old Gaithersburg woman died Tuesday night after a car struck her while she was crossing the street, according to police.

Svetlan Bychkova, who lived in the 1700 block of King James Way, was walking west across the southbound lanes of Muddy Branch Road near Harmony Hall Road in Gaithersburg. A car hit her at about 8 p.m., according to a Montgomery County police press release.

First responders were called to the scene and took Bychkova to Suburban Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police. She died at the hospital.

Police identified the driver of the car, a black 2006 Lexus ES 330, as Sara Eugenia Rivera, 27, of the 800 block of West Side Drive in Gaithersburg. She remained on the scene and provided information to investigators, police said.
