Small Bites: New Addie’s Lives Up to Nostalgia, Reviewer Says

Addie’s review praises the old and new

In a Washington Post review, Maura Judkis writes approvingly of Addie’s, a long-loved Rockville restaurant that closed in 2013 and reopened in Park Potomac last month. Addie’s has been the subject of heavy expectations, and Judkis says owner Jeff Black has hit the right mix of old and new with the restaurant—though she admits she had never been to the old Addie’s.

Of the few dishes that remain from the original menu, she praises the rolls as “clouds made of butter.” She also appreciates the choices offered by the signature seafood tower, which includes small plates of different seafood options.

In an interview with The Post, Jeff Black says he wasn’t trying to completely re-create the restaurant, but reinvent it. “I try to tell my staff, this is Addie’s 2.0,” he told Judkis. “We’re not going to be the old Addie’s.”

City Taste Asian Cuisine opens in Silver Spring

City Taste, downtown Silver Spring’s newest Asian restaurant, opened last week at 930 Wayne Ave., according to the blog Source of the Spring. The restaurant serves a mix of Chinese, Thai and sushi—with a selection of more than 70 sushi rolls.

The restaurant has taken over the former space of Vietnamese restaurant Pho Hoa Binh 2 in the Crescent condominiums building.

It’s open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and closes at 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

‘Make It Funky’ event at Denizens

For the third year in a row, Denizens Brewing Co. will host an event celebrating wild and sour brews. The ‘Make It Funky’ Wild Beer Festival will take place Sept. 30 and feature 100 “funky” beers and drinks from breweries, cideries and kombucha makers. The event also features a DJ set and a special menu that includes oysters from Takoma Park’s Republic.

Tickets are $60 and include unlimited sample pours from 1 to 5 p.m.
