Cava plans new restaurants in Potomac, Gaithersburg
The Mediterranean fast-casual chain Cava is continuing its area expansion. The restaurant already has locations on Bethesda Row, in Westfield Montgomery mall and in downtown Silver Spring. Its owner is planning to open new Cavas in the Cabin John Shopping Center in Potomac and at Shady Grove Road near Interstate 270, according to local retail blog The Store Reporter.
Cava earlier announced it will be one of several restaurants coming to Montrose Crossing, in part of the former Timpano Italian Chophouse space. That restaurant is expected to open in the winter.
After its humble start in Rockville in 2006, Cava has since expanded to more than 30 restaurants across the country, with many centered around Washington, D.C., as well as outposts in New Jersey and California.
Cava won for Favorite Fast Bites and Restaurateur of the Year at the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington awards this year.
C&O Canal Trust holds Park After Dark benefit
An event Saturday at the Historic Great Falls Tavern in C&O Canal National Historical Park offers food, live music and camp fires. Proceeds from the Park After Dark benefit go toward the C&O Canal Trust, which is celebrating 10 years as a fundraiser for the park. Tickets are $200.
Farm to Fork dinner this weekend at Sugarloaf
The Montgomery Countryside Alliance, an organization that works to protect rural areas and farms, is holding a Farm to Fark benefit dinner this weekend at Exquisite Shepherd’s Hey Farm near Sugarloaf Mountain. The menu includes locally sourced items such as succotash, goat cheese, fried chicken and bread baskets.
Tickets start at $250, with other packages available. Proceeds go to the Montgomery Countryside Alliance.
