Suma Restaurant and Bar, a Bethesda Avenue establishment serving American food, has closed temporarily, according to a sign on its door.
The sign, which was posted over the weekend at the 4921 Bethesda Ave. restaurant, says the closure is due to renovations and that the restaurant will reopen next month.
Suma owners did not respond to requests for comment Monday.
The restaurant opened in April 2016 as a venture of a chef and former general manager of Mussel Bar & Grille on Woodmont Avenue.
The restaurant offered American fare of challah fried chicken, pizza and other items for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Its name came from the Old English word for “born in the summer” and the interior aimed for an open, laidback atmosphere.
The restaurant’s patio is now boarded up. Tables and chairs are still set up inside.
