A man died and another man was injured in a Bethesda house fire on Sunday, according to rescue officials.
Firefighters responded to a house in the 5200 block of Danbury Road for a report of a fire at about 4:30 p.m., Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman Daniel Ogren posted on Twitter. They had heard one person might have been trapped inside the burning single-family home.
Firefighters extinguished the flames by 5:40 p.m., Ogren tweeted.
A 31-year-old man escaped from the house and told rescue crews his friend was still inside, WTOP reported. That man was transported to a local hospital.
Rescue crews located the other man in the basement of the home, but he was dead by the time they found him, according to WTOP. Officials had not released the man’s identity as of Monday morning.
Firefighters encountered “hoarding conditions” in the house, but did not indicate the cause of the fire, NBC Washington reported.
