What's happening Sept. 8-10

DC South Asian Film Festival—Friday to Sunday—Montgomery College, Rockville Campus

The Rockville Campus of Montgomery College is hosting the sixth annual Washington DC South Asian Film Festival this weekend, with three days of movies from the region. The opening and closing night galas will feature film directors and stars, including several Indian actors.

All-access passes are available for $150, while tickets for individual movies are $12. Movies screen throughout the weekend.

Chris and the Wonderful Lamp—Friday to Sunday—F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, Rockville

After closing for the summer for renovations, the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre has opened its doors again. This weekend, the theater will stage three performances of Chris and the Wonderful Lamp, a play about a Connecticut man who comes across Aladdin’s lamp and tries to use it for love.

Tickets are $28 for adults, $24 for seniors and $20 for students. Shows are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Team Familiar—Saturday—Strathmore, North Bethesda

Part funk, part Go-Go and part soul, Team Familiar is bringing the party to Strathmore this weekend. The group will play at the gazebo for a “Live from the Lawn” event, featuring barbecue and sangria.

Silver Spring Jazz Festival—Saturday—Veterans Plaza, Silver Spring

The Silver Spring Jazz Festival is back this year with headliner Lao Tizer, who fronts a multicultural band with rock and Afro Cuban influences. The festival also features the Jazz Academy of Music and other bands through the day. Vendors and outdoor seating will be available on Ellsworth Drive.

The free festival runs from 3 to 10 p.m.

2 Chainz—Saturday—The Fillmore, Silver Spring

The Fillmore

Georgia rapper 2 Chainz makes a stop at The Fillmore this weekend for his “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music” tour. Born Tauheed Epps, the rapper got his start with duo Playaz Circle and now has a record deal with Def Jam.

Tickets are sold out, but available on StubHub from $100 to $269. The show is at 8 p.m.
